How to turn your EXISTING skills into a recession proof Business

Recession Proof Business

Why consider a recession proof business?

Everyone has an existing skill that they can leverage to make more money. With the recession knocking at our door, what recession proof business could you start with those existing skills you already have that would thrive during the recession.

And with some of the wealthiest billionaires like Elon musk and Jeff Bezos warning about the recession, what businesses could we start that can not only thrive in the recession but make 10K a month.

The truth about a recession is that we all know it will happen, as market corrections are necessary, but no one really knows when it will happen exactly and it’s all speculation.

But regardless of when it happens, there are still businesses that do well even in the recession.

When you own a business, you will need to develop new skills as you go—at least in the beginning. Especially as a new business owner, everything is a learning phase.

Let’s look at a few and see how you can use your existing skills to figure out what business is right for you.

  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Any Trade skills (plumbing, electrician, auto repair, painting etc.)
  • Good with excel and data entry.
  • Or my favorite PURE determination and grit

Marketing

If you have the skill of marketing or any interest in learning it then you can start a business, helping other businesses and in turn make a lot of money.

With this B2B model, you can let businesses know that you can help them generate leads and sales. You’ll will need to create a special link or unique identifier that lets them know that you were responsible for the leads generated or the sales.

You can negotiate a 20, 30 or sometimes even a 40% cut on the sale made.  This will accomplish 2 things. First it will help that business you are generating leads and sales for because it will allow them to keep their cost down, because you are doing the marketing on their behalf, and you a generating them more TRAFFIC AND sales.

You can make money on services and products that you didn’t have to create. This is all with using your marketing skills. There are marketing businesses making millions of dollars with this approach.

In general, if you can become a great marketer, then you can apply it to a lot of different services or products.

Sales

Next if you’re good at sales and have good negotiating skills then there are a ton of recession-proof businesses you can start to make money.

Sales can be applied to any business and is the key driver for generating revenue. If you have the skill and are bootstrapping your business, then you can use your sales skills to bring money in the door from your sweat equity that you’re putting in.

If you’re good at sales, you can sell on the phone, writes sales copy for your marketing campaign, or do face to face sales.

If you’re good at sales, and only have let’s say $1000 to your name. You can get your Real estate license and start getting listings and represent buyers. You could use your sales skills to convince them that you are the right person for the job. You could even target luxury home buyers and sellers, and have those conversations with them, using your ability to sell yourself and why you can help them.

That $1000 and easily become a 6-figure business in your first year if you’re good at this skill. This is just one example but you could also invest that into the next skill which is…

Gaining a Trade Skill

Trade skills can be Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting, flooring, auto repair, cleaning, electrical, ill even car detailer, and power washer in this, even though its not a trade skill exactly.

Some of these skills will require that you have your certifications or licenses to be able to use that skill to make money.

All of these trade skills just mentioned can be a business that you start that will continue to have demand even in a recession.

People will always need a plumber or an electrician. Auto repair will always be in demand. You can spend a bit of money to get certified in a skill, form your LLC, launch a website, run ads to the trade service you are offering and make sales.

These trade skills will always be in demand. Make sure to make your brand stand out and show what separates you from the other competitors.

The next skill worth mentioning is…

Having Pure Determination and Grit

This means working hard and not quitting when things don’t seem to be working.

You don’t have to be the smartest person or the most talented, you are just willing to put in the most work and make things happen. You don’t take no for an answer and you’re resilient.

NO matter how hard life hits you, you get up and fight.

I’m not sure if this is even a skill that you can be taught, whether you have it, or you don’t.

If this is you, then consider yourself lucky because your options are endless.

Around 2018 I lost a lot of money from a house flip that went negative. I talked about it some of my other videos, but I was broke. My wife was pregnant with our second girl, and just out of pure determination and grit, started selling stuff I had around the house.

I took that money and kept reinvesting it into buying more stuff to flip and sell. I cut expenses everywhere I could so that I could buy more stuff to sell.

When I ran out of money, because it was all tied up into the inventory. I went out and got a high interest loan for 47,500. I used all that money to buy more stuff to sell for more.

At the end of the year, I grossed about 485K in a single year.

I say all that to show you that pure determination and hard work can get you ahead financially. Since then, I started multiple businesses, some are doing well, and some didn’t work out. But I don’t quit, I keep working towards my personal financial goals.

If we were in a recession, you could still flip used cars, couches, land, you could buy pallets and flip items for more.

I would adjust the offer price, and make lower offers, because you would be in a buyer’s market.

If you were good at data entry and excel, you could offer your services online, build your clients, hire and scale it into a full business.

In a recession everything’s for sale, and businesses and consumers tighten up on spending. But there are some products and services that will always be in demand. And pairing the right skill and the right business can make 10K a month.

Find out what skill you have to offer and a business that will align and still have demand even in a recession and you’ll be fine.
